Role Overview

We are looking to hire a part-time Projects & Strategy Officer to join us as a self-employed contractor who can provide operational, project-based, and digital support to help the Executive Committee deliver ISB’s action plan, with the main point of contact being the Executive Director. This is a versatile role which covers various different areas of work including event logistics (for physical and virtual events), strategy, development of internal resources, and digital communications.

This role is for an average of 16 hours of work per week on an annual basis, though may fluctuate each week depending on the organisation’s needs. There may be an opportunity for this to increase in the future subject to periodic reviews.

Key Responsibilities

The main objective is to help the Executive Committee deliver their action plan by providing operational and project support. We are especially interested in those who can think strategically to help us build our capacity and have a greater impact. While most of this role will be covered by the points below, a degree of adaptability and flexibility would be needed to address specific needs as and when they arise. We will work to ensure that the workload is balanced and manageable, and that support is provided where relevant to help you succeed in the role.

Internal Resources & Volunteer Support

  • Work with the Operations Lead to develop internal resources and training materials to support ISB’s work (such as topic lists, speaker lists, operating procedures)
  • Support the volunteer onboarding process

Strategy & Funding

  • Explore growth opportunities for the organisation, such as through potential collaboration opportunities or building connections with new speakers or venues
  • Evaluating and thinking of ideas for how the organisation can improve outreach and impact
  • Keeping an eye out for funding opportunities
  • Grant applications and writing

Events & Logistics

  • Support teams with event planning, including reaching out to speakers, venues and caterers
  • Manage ticketing, poster-making and communications

Online Sessions & Digital Platforms

  • Schedule and manage sessions on Zoom for online sessions
  • Manage logistics for online short courses
  • Update the website and calendar regularly – adding new events, uploading written material as blogs, and updating project information/content
  • Occasionally record, edit, and upload online sessions to the ISB YouTube channel

Communications & Marketing

  • Create, send, and manage monthly newsletters and mailing lists
  • Have ownership of PowerPoint materials for ISB’s marketing
  • Designing posters for events
  • Assist with publicity of ISB’s events

Governance

  • Help to keep ISB safe by ensuring our activities are in line with policies and best practices

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong organisational and communication skills
  • Experience of project management and delivery
  • Can think strategically and is able to critically evaluate projects
  • Is comfortable using digital tools (e.g. Zoom, PowerPoint, website, mailing list software)
  • Is flexible with timings so as to be able to provide support during evenings and weekends, when volunteers are most active
  • Can travel to attend some of our key in-person events
  • Is happy to represent ISB at certain events, trainings or meetings
  • Is adaptable and comfortable managing a variety of tasks, with an eye for detail
  • Preferably has experience working or volunteering with Muslim charities or organisations

Benefits

As an organisation which seeks to empower individuals and communities, we take great pride in ensuring our team has access to opportunities for their own development. These can include:

  • Opportunities to meet and network with influential individuals and organisations
  • Opportunities for funded access to training and development workshops
  • Opportunities to host/chair talks and sessions by exciting speakers that we invite
  • Attend ISB team socials each year
  • Generally develop teamwork and leadership skills through this work
  • Work for an exciting, purpose-led organisation run primarily by passionate young adults, which seeks to provide tangible benefits to the British Muslim community
