Everyone by now knows about the global encampments – there are so many ways you can be involved as a Muslim. The Leeds encampment, for example, really needs more of a Muslim presence, as does every encampment nationally!!

Social justice is at the core of our Islam.

It can be really easy to be demoralised by the lack of Muslim presence. The ISOC and Muslim Chaplain do amazing work internally but we need numbers. We need students and the wider community to have ironclad unity on campus and across the country in order to mount pressure.

That means every single person has to take up a mantle!! – because this is genocide and ethnic cleansing. These are not normal times and there is no later date.

Shout about it, write a poem, read a book and talk about it, write a speech, get friends & help your local encampments with supplies and get involved with supporting logistics. Make art to publicise, protest, call MPs, demand meetings with management. Agitate because we need momentum and we cannot live in a world where institutions happily fund genocide.

It’s our duty to stand up for justice, even small actions with our hands and voices. Allah loves small, good actions and they compound. If we want this to become a global, historical moment like the dismantling of south African Apartheid, individual, ordinary people like you have to act.

So get out there and make some noise, because your small actions matter‼
