Jameelah Bamigbola from Campus North joined Na’amod, an actively pro Palestinian Jewish group, for a Chanuaka get together. ‘Forging new friendships.’
‘This was my first Chanukah and I felt really welcome. Traditional foods such as donuts and latkes were served, as well as tzatziki and an authentic New York pumpkin cake. Our hosts walked us through the history of Chanuaka and explained the significance of lighting candles. While learning how to play dreidel I and the other Muslim guests learnt letters in Hebrew that are very similar to ن, غ and ح in Arabic. The spirit of the evening was demonstrated by a comment someone made as they gave me a lift home; in strange and dangerous times we all must come together for goodness and warmth.’
