ISB Campus Midlands held our annual iftar event at the Selly Oak Quaker meeting house. This gathering brought together a diverse community for an evening of reflection and spiritual nourishment. It started with a lovely Quranic recitation from Sulaiman, which set a calm tone for the night. Uncle Rizwan gave an insightful talk, linking the joys of Ramadan with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. He emphasized how rising above the self leads to sincere worship of the divine.
Our guest from the Dialogue Society engaged in a captivating conversation about the experience of being a Muslim in a non-Muslim setting. She addressed questions related to hijab, fasting, and identity. The evening also included Hayaan giving a meaningful reminder about gratitude, and then also leading a reflective dhikr activity that encouraged us to connect deeply with the spirit of the month.
We then had opened our fast, had maghrib prayer and a delicous iftaar with family and friends.A bake sale took place, with all proceeds going to support Palestinian refugees and the ISB campus, enhancing the sense of compassion and solidarity during the event. The night concluded with peaceful recitations of the Isha and Taraweeh prayers, led by both new attendees and regular I campus members. This created an atmosphere of unity and respect. The beautiful voices and collective worship made it a truly special evening, leaving everyone feeling spiritually uplifted and connected.
