On Saturday 31st January, ISB’s members convened for this year’s AMM, held at H.A.D. in Birmingham. We began the day listening to presentations from our brilliant guest speakers, Dr Sadek Hamid and Dr Shenaz Bunglawala, followed by insightful discussions all on the past, present and future of British Muslim activism.
We were especially grateful also to have been joined by Dr Hany El Banna, who came to chair the elections (for those not aware, the founder of Islamic Relief and a highly influential figure in Muslim charity and organisational work!). After hearing the reports from ISB’s different departments on their work in the past term, the elections were held with the following outcomes:
1) The new constitution was adopted
2) The proposed trustees were all appointed – Khalid Anis (as Chair), Aadam Varsani and Tawqeer Rashid
Alongside this, the role of Executive Director was formally accepted by myself and with that, the new Executive Committee members were all officially appointed! We ended the day with a ‘town hall’ discussion on the future direction of ISB. It was great to hear people’s reflections and ideas and we’d love to continue to hear people’s thoughts going forward 🙏🏾
A number of us stayed behind afterwards to enjoy some lovely food at the nearby restaurant Tipu Sultan.😋 A special shout out to fellow Campus member Maysoon, who prepared a fantastic lunch for us on the day and also to long-time ISB member Dr Shafeeq Sadiq who gave us a surprise performance at the end! 😁
